  1. Deploy Now and Validate Package Buttons

Presently, the Deploy Now and Validate Package buttons are positioned adjacent to each other. Occasionally, there is a risk of unintentionally selecting the Deploy Now button before the package has been validated. This can result in potential issues arising. To address this, I recommend the following actions:

    1. Enable the Deploy Now button only after the Validate Package process is successfully completed.
    2. Consider repositioning the buttons within the User Interface if both buttons share the same screen.
    3. Alternatively, place the Deploy Now button after the Validate Package screen in the sequence.

    Thanks.

  2. Need to be made aware and/or given the opportunity to view the totality of the changes prior to deployment

Heres what happened, we deployed the Metadata AND a ChatBot. As part of our deployment, we manually updated the metadatas to contain PROD relavent info (instead of ACC info that was pushed from ACC Branch)

I also discovered that there were duplicate utterances in the Chatbot which we had to remove via manual DML deletes to ensure that the Data Model was built properly.

Then, we wanted to deploy just a Field change, and did so by merging a PR containt just the Field Change into main in Azure. This, obviously, triggered a deployment and in that deployment, the metadata…

  3. Allow download of XML files from the comparisons page

In some instances, we have to use the Metadata API to download XML files for analysis. However, the Metadata API is a pain to use. Even Salesforce recognizes this and suggests using a migration tool like Gearset to extract these: https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.246.0.api_meta.meta/api_meta/file_based.htm

Since Gearset retrieves these files during comparison, it would be great if there was an option to download them to a zip file directly.

Note: There is already a "Download Package" feature on the deployment page. However, we obviously can't add items to this page if there is no change between the orgs. So, if a similar feature were…

  4. Attach specific Tests to Feature Branch Manually

I would like to have the ability to force a features jobs to run specific test(s) from the CI screen.

So if GS fails to detect a test class (either by error or b/c its not named in the expected convention) OR would have failed to catch breaking changes elsewhere, we can avoid/prevent this attaching a set of test classes to that feature branches deployment configuration in GS.

  5. Ability to use include/exclude patterns for Apex tests

Now we can only have patterns to match test classes to include.
Would love to have ability to use include/exclude patterns (like for comparisons).
We have many tests which we don't want to execute within CI jobs. These could be from (stable) 3rd party libraries like FFLib.

  6. Allow automatic tagging of release commits

I've found it very useful to be able to quickly identify release merge commits from our VCS. Being able to search for a tag in our VCS would allow us to easily compare one version to another without having to use something like git bisect. I'd like the option to automatically tag a commit (you could probably use the release name) would be helpful.

  7. Ability to download/restore data in bulk

We deleted 40 000 records, now we want to download data from the backup for all of them. I can filter them, select for which I want to get it and download, the challenge is, that only 500 records are loaded by default and I can load more in a batch of 500. A lot of clicking to see all of them.

  8. Add the ability to back up Salesforce Change sets

While we use Gearset for our change sets, we have time where a 3rd party developer or a new admin uses standard Salesforce Change sets. We have had an incident where Hyperforce wiped out all of our change sets in all sandboxes, it would beneficial to add the ability to the backup to back up change sets

  9. allow the option to include destructive changes for data deployments

allow data deployments to have an option where records existing on the target org but not in the source org are deleted. This will in effect allow a full sync between source and target orgs without any manual intervention to clean up data.

  10. Pipeline Sync Environment & Dev Environment

Currently we only have the ability to sync static pipeline environments. This is well and good but unfortunately syncing the Project branch can be time consuming and confusing Its not as simple as syncing the static environment.

I suggest when I sync the static environment , the sync action automatically opens a back propagation PR to the Dev environment its connected to. Also this sync action should close any pending open PRs against that dev environment that overlap with the sync PR.

  11. Pipeline PR User interface Details

Currently we can see Jira ticket status when we look at PRs in the pipeline UI it would be phenomenal if we could include additional Jira fields to be seen from Pipeline UI such as Summary or fixversion

  12. Show Metadata API version used to retrieve metadata for comparison on comparison result page

It would save time and give confidence if the specific Metadata API version number used to retrieve the metadata was displayed on the comparison results page.

  13. Update Deployment Functionality for Education Cloud Standard Picklist

Currently, Education Cloud standard picklist field values are able to be deployed to production. However, the deployment lacks the ability to define active or inactive picklist values. The workaround is to manually activate and deactivate these values after deployment.

This functionality was recently changed on 8/17/2023 for the Academic Session Season and Academic Session Type fields. Requesting the change to be made for all of these fields. 14. Indicate from Gearset if a deployment is eligible to use Quick Deploy

I would like to be able to see from Gearset if a deployment is able to utilize Quick Deploy. This would be particularly useful for releases to production as we release after hours and our unit tests can take many hours to run. Knowing that Gearset will use Quick Deploy will increase our confidence with our release and reduce mental load knowing that the deployment will be much more likely to succeed.

  15. Gearset VS Code Extension

My development team spend their time in VS Code where they can see all their Git information etc. It would be great to have a Gearset plugin to stop them having to switch windows and allow them to have information at their fingertips. This could also encourage more developer use of Gearset.
    May display:
    - Build status
    - Static code analysis issues
    - View of pipeline

  16. Remove limitation of number of PRs to be added to a Release (Azure DevOps + Gearset)

Gearset automatically adds all PR details for a release in description box (Azure DevOps PR) which has max character limit of 4000 and only 16-18 PRs can be added to a release because of it. When we add one more PR after the limit is reached then the next PR does not get added to the Release and we need to create another release for them which is not correct approach as other releases may have some dependency on 1st and thing may fail in production. We need a way to disable adding description to Azure DevOps Release PR so…

  17. Download Package Option does not include custom fields.

Just wanted to flag that the Download package option would be so much handier if it also included custom fields. Even with custom fields selected in my comparison, the package.xml that I can export only includes the Objects.

  19. Allow multiple connections to the same source control system

Currently you can setup as many salesforce orgs as you would like as a source/target but you do not allow the same with VCS/Source control systems.

For example, I can only tie a single account to a single bit bucket. What if you have muiltiple bitbucket accounts that have different accesses to different repos - there is now way to do this in gearset.

You should expand the source control systems to be just like the salesforce orgs - you can configure and share as many as you would like for the same or different systems.
